Université Paris-Saclay’s international reputation is particularly strong in the fundamental sciences. According to the latest available ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2025, the University ranks:
  • 2nd worldwide in Mathematics

These outstanding positions highlight the exceptional quality and international impact of research conducted within the Paris-Saclay academic and scientific ecosystem. They also underline the University’s strong contribution to advancing knowledge in some of the most fundamental and strategically important areas of modern science and technology.

Beyond its position in global rankings, Université Paris-Saclay brings together a highly developed research environment, doctoral schools, laboratories and international academic partnerships, creating opportunities for researchers and doctoral students to engage in collaborative research at the highest level.

A Strategic Academic Partnership with University Metropolitan Tirana

This international recognition is particularly significant for University Metropolitan Tirana (UMT), which maintains active academic, research and doctoral cooperation with Université Paris-Saclay. The partnership represents an important dimension of UMT’s internationalization and research strategy, strengthening connections between Albanian higher education and leading European research institutions.
As part of this collaboration, UMT doctoral researcher Geraldo Liçi is pursuing his PhD under an international cotutelle agreement with Université Paris-Saclay, within the Doctoral School of Information and Communication Sciences and Technologies (ED STIC). Through the cotutelle framework, the doctoral research brings together the academic expertise, supervision and research environments of both institutions, providing the researcher with an international doctoral experience and access to the wider Paris-Saclay research ecosystem.

UMT Doctoral Research within the Paris-Saclay Research Ecosystem

Geraldo Liçi is currently undertaking an extended research stay in France at the Laboratoire des Signaux et Systèmes (L2S), within the Université Paris-Saclay research ecosystem. His doctoral research is conducted under the scientific supervision of Prof. Silviu-Iulian Niculescu and Prof. Arben Cela, bringing together complementary expertise from Université Paris-Saclay and University Metropolitan Tirana.
This collaboration illustrates the value of international doctoral cooperation in creating bridges between institutions, researchers and scientific communities. It also demonstrates UMT’s commitment to expanding opportunities for advanced research and strengthening its presence within the European higher education and research landscape.

Strengthening UMT’s International Research Profile

The cooperation between UMT and Université Paris-Saclay represents more than an institutional partnership. It is a concrete example of how international collaboration can directly contribute to doctoral education, scientific research and the development of young researchers.
For University Metropolitan Tirana, engagement with internationally recognized universities and research institutions remains an important part of its broader commitment to internationalization, research excellence and the development of globally connected academic programs.
The success of Université Paris-Saclay in the 2026 Shanghai Ranking further highlights the international academic environment in which UMT researchers and doctoral students are increasingly participating.
Through continued cooperation with leading international universities such as Université Paris-Saclay, University Metropolitan Tirana continues to strengthen its research profile, expand opportunities for doctoral researchers and contribute to a more internationally connected higher education environment in Albania.
