Dr. Emir Džanić – Vice Rector for Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Startups

Dr. Emir Džanić connects advanced social and technological knowledge to achieve sustainable innovation through the open innovation approach and organisational culture management. He is experienced in innovation, R&D, technology, and marketing in different industries and industrial sectors involving the food industry, FMCG sector, governmental sector, UN, EU funds, financial sector, pharmaceutical industry, etc.

Dr. Emir Džanić advises and consults organisations in change management, organisational culture, functional analysis, innovation, and business processes. He holds a doctoral degree in the nexus of open innovation adoption and management (products, services or business models), technology and organisational culture.

Experience in the fields of industrial design/ science and technology management/ R&D management/ innovation management
13 years of experience (from 31/1/2009 to date) in innovation management, R&D management, and science and technology management.
Experience in the fields of Smart City, Open innovation and Living Lab
More than 6 years of experience (from 6/2015-12/2021) in Open Innovation, Living Lab projects involving triple, quadruple and quintuple helix innovation setups.

Experience in the management of start-ups
More than 3 years (1/1995- 12/1997) experience in managing successful start-ups in cosmetics. After restructuring, continuing with a second start-up in the cosmetic industry (1/1998-1/2009) and exited through acquisition. The CEO of the start-up spin-off of the Innovation Center Innotech (6/2015-2/2018).

Contributing start-up ecosystem
Experience consulting start-up companies in developing new products (4/2012-10/2013). More than four years of experience mentoring start-up companies as part of the Zagreb start-up ecosystem development program (10/2017-12/2021). Leading the Innovation Center to help develop start-up and SME ecosystems in the food industry (6/2015-2/2018). Drafting the Albanian Entrepreneurship Strategy focused on the start-up ecosystem (15/01/2023-01/05/2024).

Dr. Nick Frydas – Vice Rector

Dr. Nick Frydas – Vice Rector for Development and Internationalization of Metropolitan Tirana University

Dr. Nick Frydas is the founder and president of the company “Safenet” as well as part of the international staff of the Tirana Metropolitan University. After completing his studies at the University of Athens, he continued his studies in Electrical Sciences at the “University of Cambridge”, his master’s studies in Telecommunication Engineering at the “University of Essex” and his doctoral studies at “Loughborough University”. Professor Frydas has a long academic and professional experience. For more than ten years he has been part of “De Montfort University” in Great Britain, as well as a manager and consultant in several companies in Greece and Europe, among which “Vodafone”, “Ideal Group SA”, “Agetor LTD “, “Dione Consultancy Services”
