University Metropolitan Tirana has been awarded the distinction “Excellent”, securing a five-year institutional accreditation from the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education and the British Accreditation Council. This recognition confirms the university’s high academic standards, the quality of its study programs, and its continuous commitment to academic improvement. Over the past years, UMT has successfully completed more than 30 program accreditation processes, demonstrating full compliance with contemporary higher education standards. UMT degrees enjoy international recognition, and many graduates have had their qualifications recognized across European Union countries and the United States, enabling them to pursue further studies and develop successful careers in the global labor market.

Distinguished Academic Staff

University Metropolitan Tirana brings together a distinguished academic community composed of leading Albanian scholars and international professors from the United States, Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Norway, Greece, and Turkey. Each academic program is supported by a Program Coordinator and an Academic Advisor, who closely monitor students’ academic progress. Advanced Laboratories

University Metropolitan Tirana places strong emphasis on integrating theoretical knowledge with practical application through a modern laboratory infrastructure. Students complete a significant part of their academic training in 11 state-of-the-art laboratories equipped with contemporary technologies and dedicated to engineering, technology, and digital economy programs. Students enrolled in Civil Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Business Informatics conduct experiments and practical projects in these facilities. This approach creates a dynamic learning environment where students develop the technical, analytical, and innovative competencies required for careers in industry and research.

Doctoral School in Artificial Intelligence

University Metropolitan Tirana offers the only doctoral program in Albania in Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Systems, designed to advance scientific research in one of the most strategic technological fields of our time. The program focuses on the application of Artificial Intelligence in areas such as medicine, energy, robotics, finance, the digital economy, education, defense, and intelligent transportation systems. The doctoral program is implemented in collaboration with universities and research institutions in France and the United States, creating a strong international research environment. Doctoral candidates are appointed as Assistant Professors at UMT, receive full research support, and are exempt from tuition fees both at UMT and at partner institutions.

International Exchange Opportunities

Through partnerships with more than 40 European universities, students at University Metropolitan Tirana have the opportunity to study abroad for one or two academic semesters within the Erasmus+ program. Partner institutions include prestigious universities in France, Spain, Italy, Poland, Sweden, Croatia, Slovenia, Latvia, the Czech Republic, Turkey, Bulgaria, and Romania. Participating students are exempt from tuition fees at the host university and receive a monthly Erasmus+ grant to support their living expenses. In 2023, the European Commission awarded UMT the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education, confirming the university’s commitment to internationalization, academic mobility, and European cooperation in higher education.

Cooperation with National and International Companies

University Metropolitan Tirana develops strategic partnerships with leading national and international companies, creating a strong link between academic education and labor market needs. Students have the opportunity to complete professional internships, research projects, and final thesis work within leading industry organizations. A notable example is the collaboration with IRIS Software Group, a major UK-based company specializing in financial software solutions. Through this partnership, UMT students benefit from paid professional internships of up to four months, gaining valuable practical experience and enhancing their employability prospects upon graduation.

Dual Study

The Dual Study model implemented at University Metropolitan Tirana integrates academic study with practical professional experience in partner companies. Students in the final years of Bachelor’s and Master’s programs pursue their academic studies while simultaneously undertaking professional placements in industry. This model strengthens the connection between academic learning and real-world professional practice. The outcomes are significant: 85% of graduates are employed in their field of study, while 90% secure employment within six months of graduation, demonstrating the effectiveness of this career-oriented educational model.

Study Funding up to 100%

University Metropolitan Tirana offers study funding opportunities of up to 100% through excellence scholarships, supporting students with outstanding academic performance and strong potential. Scholarships are awarded based on high school performance and State Matura examination results, ensuring access to high-quality education for talented students. A dedicated academic committee also evaluates students’ technical, scientific, innovative, and social engagement, allowing scholarship adjustments during the course of study. Through this policy, UMT fosters an academic environment where talent, dedication, and professional potential are recognized and supported.

Excellence Fund

Through the Excellence Fund, University Metropolitan Tirana supports its top students who pursue Master’s studies at the world’s most highly ranked universities. Each year, scholarships of €10,000 are awarded to students admitted to one of the top 20 international universities. The list of eligible universities is published at the beginning of each academic year. The application and selection process is conducted transparently by an inter-faculty academic committee, chaired by the President of the University. This initiative promotes academic excellence and strengthens the international academic trajectory of UMT students.

Metropolitan Incubator

Metropolitan Incubator is the first university-based incubator established in Albania, dedicated to developing innovative business ideas proposed by students. The program provides mentorship, technical support, and access to entrepreneurial networks, helping students transform innovative concepts into viable business ventures. Results demonstrate the success of this initiative: 85% of submitted ideas are incubated, 71% develop prototypes, and 28% successfully enter the market. The incubator is located at the Pyramid of Tirana, one of Albania’s leading innovation and start-up ecosystems.

Active Student Life

Student life at University Metropolitan Tirana is dynamic and enriched by numerous academic, cultural, and social activities. More than 90 activities are organized annually by student clubs in collaboration with academic and administrative staff, fostering an active and creative university community. Events such as “Design and the City” in architecture and initiatives from the RoboTech and Game Development clubs in technology and innovation encourage students to develop leadership, creativity, and professional competencies while contributing to the vibrant cultural life of the capital.

Social Responsibility

University Metropolitan Tirana actively promotes social responsibility and civic engagement through initiatives that support the community and vulnerable social groups. The university provides social scholarships of up to 100%, ensuring access to education for students with limited financial resources. UMT students have participated in important initiatives such as the reconstruction of homes following the 2019 earthquake, charitable campaigns, and social projects implemented in cooperation with public institutions and media organizations. These initiatives aim to cultivate professionals with a strong sense of social awareness and civic responsibility.
