The International Conference on Medical and Biological Engineering in Bosnia and Herzegovina (CMBEBIH) returns for its 6th edition from September 11–13, 2025, in Sarajevo, under the theme “From Science to Business.” As the leading regional platform for biomedical engineering, digital health, and biotechnology, CMBEBIH has become a cornerstone for innovation in the Western Balkans and a gateway to global collaboration.
UMT’s Institutional Partnership: A Strategic Alliance
University Metropolitan Tirana joins CMBEBIH 2025 as an institutional partner and collaborator, reinforcing its commitment to advancing research, education, and innovation in biomedical sciences and artificial intelligence. This partnership not only elevates UMT’s visibility in the regional scientific ecosystem but also positions it as a key contributor to the future of healthcare transformation.
At the heart of UMT’s participation is Dr. Muhammad Maaruf Ali, a respected academic and thought leader in AI and transhumanism. Dr. Ali will deliver a keynote speech titled “An Exploration of Transhumanism”, exploring the ethical, technological, and societal implications of human enhancement through AI and biomedical engineering. His insights will contribute to the conference’s broader discourse on the intersection of science, society, and innovation.
UMT Delegation: Driving Innovation Together
University Metropolitan Tirana is represented at CMBEBIH 2025 by a distinguished team of researchers and innovators who are actively contributing to the conference’s scientific and innovation agenda. The delegation includes:
· Dr. Emir Dzanic Vice Rector for Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Startups
- Dr. Muhammad Maaruf Ali – Keynote speaker and lead researcher

- Phd c. Enes Stastoli
- Phd c. Johan Note
Together, this team brings expertise in artificial intelligence, biomedical systems, and digital transformation. Their participation spans keynote lectures, co-authored research papers, and hands-on innovation through the OncoTrack Hackathon. Their collaborative efforts reflect UMT’s commitment to interdisciplinary research and its strategic role in shaping the future of healthcare in the Western Balkans and beyond.
Research Excellence: UMT’s Scopus-Indexed Contributions
In addition to the keynote, Dr. Ali and the UMT research team have co-authored four scientific papers that will be presented during the conference. These papers, focusing on AI applications in healthcare, will be indexed in the prestigious Scopus database, significantly enhancing the global reach and academic impact of UMT’s research.
This milestone reflects UMT’s growing reputation as a centre of excellence in AI-driven healthcare solutions and its dedication to producing research that is both scientifically rigorous and socially relevant.
OncoTrack Hackathon: One of the most dynamic components of CMBEBIH 2025 is the OncoTrack Hackathon, organized in collaboration with EIT Health. This innovation challenge invites participants to develop solutions for two pressing healthcare needs:
- Transforming digital patient pathways
- Developing remote and telemedical care for oncology patients
UMT’s PhD candidates will actively participate in this hackathon, applying AI methodologies to design patient-centric tools that improve cancer care delivery. Their work will address real-world challenges such as accessibility, personalization, and data-driven decision-making in oncology.
The hackathon includes workshops on diagnostics, team formation, pitch preparation, and moderated development sessions, culminating in a pitching session before a jury of European innovation leaders. This format not only fosters creativity and collaboration but also provides a launchpad for future startups and cross-border projects.
CMBEBIH: A global platform for science and impact
CMBEBIH 2025 is supported by leading institutions including UNESCO, IFMBE, EAMBES, and EIT, and is held under the high patronage of Dr. Denis Bećirović, Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The conference features:
- Keynote lectures by global experts in biomedical engineering and digital health
- Scientific sessions with peer-reviewed research presentations
- Workshops on academic publishing, business modelling, and design thinking
- Poster sessions and networking events that foster interdisciplinary collaboration
With over 1,000 participants expected from Europe, North America, Asia, and beyond, CMBEBIH serves as a vibrant hub for knowledge exchange, innovation, and strategic partnerships.
UMT’s Vision: Bridging research and real-world impact
