Research Scholarship from the French Embassy Awarded to Two UMT Doctoral Students!

Anxhelo Shehu, Assistant Lecturer at the Faculty of Computer Science and IT, and simultaneously a doctoral student at the University Metropolitan Tirana has been awarded a research scholarship by the French Embassy under the RIFA program of the French government. During his stay in France, Anxhelo will work under the supervision of Prof. René Natowicz, a professor at ESIEE Paris, a prestigious French “Grand École,” part of Gustave Eiffel University (UGE). Anxhelo will also collaborate with researchers at the LISSI (Laboratory of Image, Signal, and Intelligent Systems) at the Université Paris-Est Créteil (UPEC) Val-de-Marne, where his supervisor Prof. René Natowicz conducts his scientific work.
Anxhelo’s research focuses on the early detection of breast cancer using advanced techniques in artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning (DL) for the identification of Regions of Interest (ROI) in mammographic images. The aim of this study is to improve the early detection of breast cancer and reduce the cost of its diagnosis.

Oriod Malo, Assistant Lecturer at the Faculty of Computer Science and IT, and simultaneously a doctoral student at the University Metropolitan Tirana has been awarded a research scholarship by the French Embassy under the RIFA program of the French government. As part of this program, Oriod will visit the ESIEE Paris, a prestigious French “Grand École,” part of Gustave Eiffel University (UGE) for two months to work with Prof. Laurent Najman (https://scholar.google.fr/citations?hl=fr&user=j-2_cT0AAAAJ). The research will focus on the latest Artificial Intelligence algorithms for image processing, specifically Hierarchical-Spatial Learning for Semantic Segmentation in Open World Scenarios. These algorithms enable the study of complex anatomical structures in medical images such as MRI, CT, etc.
