Albania Shines on the Global Stage: 5 Students Represent the Country at IEO 2025 in Baku

For the second year in a row, Albania proudly took part in the final round of the International Economics Olympiad (IEO) 2025, held in Baku, Azerbaijan. Five talented high school students from across the country represented Albania among competitors from 53 nations, showcasing their skills and passion for economics on an international level.

Their journey began months earlier, with a three-stage national qualification process, professionally organized and led by Universiy Metropolitan Tirana. Over 50 students from schools across Albania participated in the competition, aiming for a spot on the national team. UMT played a central role not only as the organizer, but also as a mentor and academic supporter throughout the preparation phase.

During their time in Baku, the students demonstrated exceptional commitment, even setting aside time for additional preparation and team training. While the team didn’t bring home a medal this year, their results marked a clear improvement compared to the previous year, reflecting growth, maturity, and academic progress.

Daroni and Raiti stood out with impressive individual scores 93.8 and 92.2 points, respectively. Just a few points shy of the 100-point medal threshold. Daroni benefitted from his two years of study in the IB Economics program, while Raiti, who had no formal background in economics, displayed remarkable natural talent and still has the chance to compete again next year due to his age.

In the Business Case competition, the Albanian team ranked 18th out of 53 countries, highlighting their strong teamwork and problem-solving abilities in a highly competitive environment.

All participants received official certificates of participation, and the team leader representing Albania was also recognized as a jury member for the Business Case round, a further recognition of Albania’s growing presence in the international academic community.

Albania’s participation in IEO 2025 is more than just a competition. It is a powerful example of what young Albanians can achieve when given the right support, guidance, and belief in their potential. Through initiatives like this, University Metropolitan Tirana continues to inspire and empower the next generation of thinkers, innovators, and leaders.
