DAIT 2-DAY WORKSHOP + DATATHON - UMT

A Unique Experience with DAIT 2-DAY WORKSHOP + DATATHON for UMT Students

The University Metropolitan Tirana became the epicenter of innovation and data analysis, hosting the second edition of DAIT Datathon. This two-day event, organized in collaboration with Raiffeisen Bank, Data Max, and the UMT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, brought together students passionate about artificial intelligence and data science, challenging them with a real-world industry problem.

The second day began with a roundtable discussion on the role of AI in industry and academia, featuring renowned experts such as Silva Bashllari from DAIT, PhD(c) Oriod Malo and PhD(c) Evis Plaku from UMT, Bujar Bakiu from Data Max, Arlinda Budo, and Dario Hoxhaj from Raiffeisen Bank. They shared their insights on the opportunities and challenges in this field, sparking discussions that inspired students to explore new ideas.

Following this, participants attended two intensive workshops, diving deeper into key AI and Data Science concepts. These sessions were not limited to theory students engaged in interactive discussions, exchanged ideas with experts and gained practical knowledge directly applicable to real-world problems.

This event was more than just a competition or a seminar it was an opportunity to experience how data-driven decision-making works, how machine-learning techniques are applied, and how businesses leverage data for strategic insights. Over two intense and engaging days, students tested their skills, pushed their limits, and built valuable connections with professionals.

Datathon – The stage where students prove their skills

After absorbing knowledge from the first day’s workshops, participants moved on to the most challenging phase of the event: the Datathon.

Students were divided into teams and tasked with analyzing a complex dataset and developing a solution using AI and Data Science. This challenge required more than just coding skills it demanded analytical thinking, creativity, and critical reasoning to develop a valuable and practical solution.

Throughout the day, participants worked intensively, applying advanced algorithms, machine learning models, and data visualization techniques. Mentors were present to guide them, offer feedback, and help refine their approaches to problem-solving.

Awards and opportunities for the winners:

Teams presented their projects before a panel of judges, who evaluated them based on accuracy, innovation, and strategic approach. The competition was fierce, but a few teams stood out with their outstanding performance.

  • Two paid internships at Raiffeisen Bank, allowing students to work with real-world data at one of Albania’s largest financial institutions.
  • Two paid internships at UMT AI Lab, specifically for second-year master’s students pursuing a PhD in artificial intelligence.
  • A chance to develop their thesis in collaboration with Data Max, a leading data analytics company.

For many students, this event served as a launchpad for their future an opportunity to build a career in one of the most promising technology fields.

By organizing this event, University Metropolitan Tirana reaffirmed its commitment to preparing the next generation of tech professionals and fostering an environment where innovation and hands-on experience complement each other.
