Prof. Dr. Nikolla Civici graduated as a Physicist at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Tirana in 1973. He started his career as a physicist at the Oil Refinery Scientific Center in Kucovë, where he was involved in the use of chromatographic methods and infrared spectroscopy for the study of oil and its fractions. He then engaged in various positions at the Institute of Applied Nuclear Physics of the University of Tirana (former Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences) and recently as a lecturer at the Metropolitan University of Tirana. During his experience at the Institute of Applied Nuclear Physics of the University of Tirana, he specialized in the field of nuclear analytical methods and especially in X-ray spectrometry methods. Carrying out a series of trainings abroad in the field of nuclear physics, X-ray fluorescence ( XRF) and portable XRF systems near research groups in different countries such as Belgium, England, Germany, Italy, Greece, etc., not only contributed to the expansion of professional training but also to the establishment of stable contacts with these research groups. The fields of research have been related to X-ray spectrometry, the developments that have occurred with the use of this analytical method (T-XRF, P-XRF, micro-XRF) and their uses in various fields such as geochemistry, environmental pollution (air, water and soil) and the study of materials of cultural heritage objects. A good part of the research work has been developed in the form of projects (over 25 projects), in some of which Prof. Dr. N. Civici was the coordinator. The results of the research work during these years have been reflected in a number of publications in scientific journals (over 50 articles, over 30 in Scopus) as well as presentations of papers at scientific conferences inside and outside the country (over 90). During the period at the Institute of Applied Nuclear Physics Prof. Dr. N. Civici has held various leadership positions as department head, head of the Center for Applied Nuclear Physics (when the institute was a research center at the Faculty of Natural Sciences) and for a short time director of the Institute. Prof. Dr. N. Civici has, also, been engaged in the academic field, mainly at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Tirana, as a lecturer and supervisor of Master’s and Doctorate theses, and recently at the Metropolitan University of Tirana, where in recent years he has been elected to the position of Rector.
